How to Check Books In and Out Using Barcode Sheets
Purpose: These instructions explain how to use a barcode scanner and printed classroom barcode sheets to quickly check books in and out through Follett Destiny.
What You Need:
A computer logged in to Follett Destiny with Librarian access
A working barcode scanner (USB or wireless)
A printed Classroom Barcode Sheet (from a 3-ring binder)
Books with Destiny-compatible barcode labels
Checking Out a Book to a Student
Log in to Follett Destiny and go to your school’s Library page.
Click on the Circulation tab (usually found in the top menu).
Make sure you are in the Check Out mode (not Check In).
Scan the student's barcode from the classroom sheet using your barcode scanner.
The student's name will appear on the screen.
Scan the book's barcode (usually found on the back cover or inside the front cover).
The book will be checked out to the student. You should hear a confirmation beep or see a message on screen.
Repeat steps 4-6 for additional books or students.
Checking In Books
From the Circulation page, switch to Check In mode.
Scan the barcode on each returning book.
The system will automatically remove the item from the student's account.
You do not need to scan the student barcode when checking books in.
Tips:
Make sure barcodes are not wrinkled or smudged for accurate scanning.
Have your binder of classroom barcode sheets easily accessible by homeroom or grade level.
Keep the scanner plugged in.
If a barcode doesn't scan, you can manually type the barcode number into the field and press Enter.
Using barcode sheets and a scanner makes check-in and check-out faster, reduces errors, and helps keep your library organized.
